A story to Stony Brook.
|
|
Being a very very helpful, kindhearted friend, i drove Jean all the way from DC to Long Island, NY. Jean's movin to Stony Brook for pursuing phD, so that explain the big standard suv for loading all the stuff. As much as i prefered driving, i hate the unavoidable treffic jem of anytime in NY, which makes the journey stretched to 7-8 hours. Wohoo. Although too bad that Jean do not drive nor have a driving licence, which now makes more sense of my existence in the story, at least i have his old-time stories to entertain me while doing a macho job.
Ive rarely put pictures of my journey, mostly are pictures of destination, so here you are.
Jeans just getting used with my digital. So heres his piece of art with me inside most of em, taken during bored time, plainly sitting and staring at the road in those long hours. I took slightly few with film only while driving, , couldnt stand the slow traffic.
This entry is for you, Jean. I will remember this. Remember me.
It was only a 2 days roundtrip, which i had to drive both way the whole journey. Just for you, Jean! So now, i really need a good rest.

Lovely Girlfriends.
|
|
Cutie Shima
Sweety Fiza
Lovely Zaza
I have been keeping a roll of film that has fond memories of my friends for almost a year. My God, how lazy i was to get it developed. So just recently, i got it printed. Im not sure if the color was a bit worn off because of the long unprocessed. But well, that doesnt matter much, as there were very good memories in it.
The first two was at Perhentian Island. While the third was at Pantai Jerejak, Penang.
Miss the girls much. *Sigh..

The Cleaving
|
|
When the heaven shall be cleft asunder. And when the stars shall be fallen and scattered. And when the seas shall be burst forth. And when the graves shall be turned upside down and bring out their contents. Then, a person will know what he has sent forward and what he has left behind of good or bad deeds.
O man! What has made you careless about your Lord, the Most Generous? Who created you, fashioned you perfectly, and gave you due proportion. In whatever He willed, He put you together. .
Nay! But you deny Ad-Din , the Day of Recompense. But verily, over you are appointed angels in charge of mankind to watch you. Kiraman (honourable Katibin - writting down your deeds, They know all that you do. Verily, Al-Abrar, the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism will be in Delight, Paradise. And verily, Al-Fujjar, the wicked, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners and evildoers will be in the blazing Fire Hell.
Therein they will enter, and taste its burning flame on the Day of Recompense, And they Al-Fujjar will not be absent therefrom. And what will make you know what the Day of Recompense is?
Again, what will make you know what the Day of Recompense is?
It will be the day when no person shall have power to do anything for another, and the Decision, that Day, will be wholly with Allah.

That 3 a.m.
|
|
'What's the deal with my brain?
Why am I so obviously insane?
In a perfect situation
I let love down the drain.
There's the pitch, slow and straight.
All I have to do is swing
and I'm the hero, but I'm the zero.'
That 3a.m, was that a product of a proper thought?
-Critic 1 depth of field. I chose short. Manual, f4 @ 1/30. Printed at f8, 21/2 filter for 18 second.

What keeps me?
|
|
What will bring me home?
What will make me stay?
What will bring me home.
What will make me stay.
Well i dont know, i dont know..
Love pull your sore ribs in.
I will pull your tangles out.
In the back of your car i feel like i have travelled nowhere.

Hasselblad 501c
|
|
Late last summer, when I was walking down the street one evening near GW, i spotted a young lady with this one bulky weird looking camera. I was so curious about the equipment she was using and what she was capturing, since i dunt find any interesting view infront of her, so i stopped by and went to ask her. She told me she was assisting her boss from Germany to DC for some photography work. No wonder her accent was different. She was capturing motion of movement cars, and the camera was a haselblad. That was the second time i heard the name. The first was when i went to an Eastern Market some months, months ago to buy a photograph from a photographer who use the same brand. I asked her to show how to use it, of course i have no idea what a medium format is at that time. Since then, i always wanted to try one, particularly a hasselblad. So not until last 3 weeks ago, a friend of mine who was kindly enough, help me rent a very unaffordable Hasselblad. Thank you so much Najib. I was indeed happy. So heres a bit of how a 501c looks like.
Its not much of a different than to an old 35 mm camera, in terms of operating. Physically, it sure does. Just that i thought the depth preview tab is used to check the light metering. Boy, i was wrong, that explained why most of my shots were either over or under exposed. Lucky enough, i can still burn or dodge it in the darkroom to make the image appeared. Thats the beauty of using a film. So heres the remain two that i printed.
I could only afford to print just 4 since i was busy printing for my final project too. Anyway,I figured out that a medium format might be a better use for close up subject in low light condition. Let say, potraite for example?

A Life of Protest
|
|
Her name is Picciotto. She occupies a humble patch of sidewalk in Lfayette Park, directly across from the entrance to the White House. She's there in the morning, when the tourists line up for their visit to the executive mansion; shes there in the afternoon, when office workers flock to the park for picnic lunches; shes there in the evening, when rush hour clogs Pennsylvnia Avenue, and she's there at 3a.m, when silence rules, save for the occasional stirring of a restless drunk on a nearby park bench. Shes there 24 hours a day since 1981 and still now, up to the moment, i took her picture.
'So, where are you from little child?' She smiled weakly to me.
'Malaysia..' I smiled back, admiring her.
'Here, i have one for you from Malaysia.' She handed me her article published from the Daily Express Malaysia.
I wunt lie that no matter how strong she survived, i pity her. I just wish that wouldnt it be better if she can devote her life as a Muslim,to God, not just for this world. I understand her strong stand and i support her. Yet, still all those wasted years of her life. But then, without hidayah, wuld she understand?
'Imagine, I have seen people froze to death in that park, right across the street from the house of the most powerful man in the world.' Picciotto said. The photo above shows the WhiteHouse, where Picciotto's everyday view of her neighbour.
She even has a website. Check here.
Taken by 501c Hasselblad, the first medium format i ever used. The photos were actually overlyexposed, so i had to burn it using a 2.8 exposure in the darkroom for about 5 to 10 seconds. Imagine that. I left the second photo for more than 2 minutes in the development chemical so it turned out a bit darker than its supposed to be. Clumsy me.
